2 women injured after being thrown from raft at Melaka theme park

Two women were injured after being thrown from an inflatable raft while riding a water slide at a theme park in Ayer Keroh, Melaka, on Saturday (August 22).

Melaka Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Halim Abas said the incident happened at about 2.30pm, with one woman suffering a small blood clot on the right side of her head and the other sustaining a concussion, the New Straits Times (NST) reported on Tuesday.

Initial investigations found that the women were riding a double inflatable raft when it allegedly struck something while descending the slide, he said. 

The women were visiting the theme park with their families, The Star reported.

One of the victims, Razita Abd Razak, 46, was seated at the front of the raft when her head hit the side of the slide. 

She said she could not remember what happened afterwards, NST reported.

Razita also suffered injuries under her chin, headaches and chest pain, as well as a wound to her right knee.

She was taken to Melaka Hospital, where X-rays found no fractures. A CT scan, however, detected a small blood clot on the right side of her head.

Lost consciousness

The other victim, Norfazlin Badrol Hisham, 31, lost consciousness while descending the slide and could not recall the incident. 

She only regained consciousness after reaching the open section of the slide, Halim said, according to The Star.

Norfazlin later sought treatment at a private hospital, where she was diagnosed with a concussion and was found to have no other injuries.

Police also found that both women emerged from the slide without the raft and missed the designated splash pool before they were found unconscious.

The incident was noticed by Razita's daughter, Nur Sabira Mustaza, 22, who was at the theme park with her family. She later lodged a police report at the Ayer Keroh police station at 11.05am on Sunday.

Halim said police investigations found no criminal element in the incident.
