Yishun food stall offers free buffet after fire breaks out at coffee shop

A food stall has offered affected diners a complimentary buffet after a fire broke out at a coffee shop in Yishun on Thursday (Aug 6).

In a social media post following the fire, Moon Thai Kitchen Express apologised to affected customers, saying those who had the buffet from 6pm onwards on Thursday would be entitled to a complimentary buffet on their next visit as a gesture of apology.

The stall said eligible diners could redeem the offer by sending the outlet a direct message with their receipt.

"Due to an unexpected operational issue, your dining experience may not have met the standard we strive to provide. We are truly sorry for the inconvenience caused," it added.

Responding to queries from AsiaOne, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to a fire at Block 732 Yishun Avenue 5 at about 6.55pm.

SCDF added that the fire, which involved the contents of a stall at the ground-floor coffee shop, was extinguished by activating the automatic suppression system before firefighters arrived.

One person was assessed for minor injuries but declined to be taken to hospital.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
