BigBang XX: Cosmos concert ticket scams see at least 5 people lose $3,500, police warn

As tickets sell out for the Singapore leg of K-pop band BigBang's XX: Cosmos world tour, at least five people have fallen victim to concert ticket scams, losing a total of more than $3,500.

In an advisory on Thursday night (Aug 13), the police urged members of the public to remain vigilant against scammers exploiting interest in the highly anticipated concert.

Sales for the one-night concert on Oct 17, which began on Aug 11, officially sold out on Thursday. This was confirmed in an Instagram post by G-Dragon on the same day.

Police said in an advisory on Thursday night that they have received at least five reports linked to BigBang concert ticket scams since August, with total losses amounting to at least $3,500.

Victims reported coming across advertisements or listings for BigBang concert tickets on online platforms. Believing that these listings were genuine, they would contact the "sellers" and make advance payments via bank transfer, PayNow, or other payment methods to secure the tickets.

They would realise that they were scammed only when they did not receive the tickets or were unable to contact the sellers thereafter.

The police said they have reached out to Carousell to request for the removal of relevant resale concert ticket listings. 

The police also noted that both Facebook Marketplace and TikTok Shop already do not support the sale of event or concert tickets. 

Members of the public are advised to exercise caution when purchasing concert tickets from online platforms, especially for highly anticipated concerts where tickets are limited and demand is high, the police said.

They also reminded the public to purchase concert tickets only from authorised platforms.
