A fire broke out at a flat in Choa Chu Kang on Tuesday (Oct 6) at about 1.50pm at Block 807C Choa Chu Kang Avenue 1.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in response to AsiaOne's queries that the fire involved the contents of a living room in a 16th-floor unit.

Firefighters conducted forcible entry and extinguished the fire using one water jet and two hose reels, it added.

Police officers and firefighters also evacuated about 60 people from the block as a precautionary measure.

Two SCDF light fire attack vehicles and a combined platform ladder, used for aerial firefighting, were seen at 2.08pm. They were later joined by other firefighting appliances.

There were no reported injuries in the fire and the cause of the fire is under investigation, SCDF said.

Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow, who is also MP for Chua Chu Kang GRC, said in a Facebook post amid Parliament proceedings that SCDF's quick response ensured that residents could return home safely.

He added that staff from the People's Association, along with Town Council and HDB officers, were at the affected block to assist residents.

"My grassroots team and I will continue to keep in touch with affected residents and provide support where needed.

"Residents who need assistance can contact the Brickland-Tengah Constituency Office at 6235 8165 or reach us through our social media pages."

Homeowners and residents are reminded not to overload electrical outlets with electrical appliances, and to always switch off appliances that are not in use.

Batteries and devices should also not be left charging unattended for an extended period of time.

Last year, 34 fires occurred in residential premises, 10 fewer than in 2024.

Fires involving active mobility devices remain an area of concern, especially for those that occur in homes, SCDF said in its Emergency Medical Services, Fire and Enforcement Statistics 2025 report in February.
