Some 200 people were evacuated after a fire broke out at a Housing and Development Board (HDB) block in Choa Chu Kang on Saturday (Aug 29) night.

The incident happened at Block 287 Cho Chu Kang Avenue 2 at about 9.05pm.

Videos of the incident shared with AsiaOne show smoke billowing from the upper floor of a second-storey executive maisonette unit.

Residents are also seen gathered at the ground floor area.

At least two fire engines, a light fire attack vehicle and an ambulance, along with several police fast response cars were present at the scene.

In response to AsiaOne's queries, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) stated that the fire involved contents of a bedroom in a second-floor unit, adding that firefighters extinguished the fire with one water jet.

Two residents self-evacuated from the affected unit prior to SCDF's arrival and were later taken to the Singapore General Hospital for smoke inhalation.

About 200 persons were evacuated by police and SCDF officers as a precautionary measure, SCDF said.

Fire investigations are ongoing.
