Coronavirus: 1 death reported on Monday, MOM releases statement

The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has released a statement expressing their deepest condolences to the deceased's family. It said the family members and employer of the deceased, as well as the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Singapore, have been informed.

The statement also added: "The deceased started working in Singapore in 2001. He was working as a foreman under his current employer for close to a year and had no employment issues. His employer had alerted his family of his condition when he was first admitted to the ICU on May 6, 2020. The hospital had also provided regular updates to the employer.

"MOM is working with the Migrant Workers' Centre (MWC) to provide financial assistance to the deceased's family to tide over immediate needs via its Migrant Workers Assistance Fund. The employer will also be assisting the family members on the funeral arrangements."

The Ministry of Health has confirmed an additional 408 cases of Covid-19 infection in Singapore on Monday (June 1), all of whom are Work Permit holders residing in foreign worker dormitories.

There are no community cases.

However, a 51-year-old male Chinese national, Case 17329, died yesterday from complications due to Covid-19 infection. He was diagnosed with lymphoma complicated by multi-organ failure while he had been warded in the intensive care unit in end April. Despite being treated for lymphoma, his condition had deteriorated and he subsequently died. He was confirmed to have Covid-19 infection on May 1. The National University Hospital has reached out to his family and is extending assistance to them.

767 more cases have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities.

Of the 344 cases who are still in hospital, most are in stable condition or improving. Seven are in critical condition in the intensive care unit, while 12,458 cases who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19 are isolated and cared for at community facilities.

This brings the total number of cases to 35,292, with 22,466 patients discharged and 24 deaths.
