Crow seen pecking at bag of raw meat outside food court in Jurong West, SFA investigating

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) has launched an investigation after footage of a crow pecking at a bag of raw meat outside a food court in Jurong West emerged online.

Footage shared on social media shows a crow perched on top of a plastic crate outside Koufu's Pioneer Mall outlet on Sept 21, pecking at a plastic bag that appears to be filled with raw meat.

There are multiple crates filled with fresh produce surrounding the crow, and at least one other barrel also containing a bag of raw meat.

An employee at the food court told Shin Min Daily News that the ingredients belonged to his stall, and that the person who witnessed the incident had reported it to him that day.

He immediately discarded the meat, adding that the supplier must have forgotten to cover the baskets after delivering the ingredients the night before, he told Shin Min.

In response to AsiaOne's queries, SFA said it is looking into the matter. 

"As part of the enquiry and gathering of evidence, SFA may engage the feedback provider for more details and will not hesitate to take enforcement action if sufficient evidence has been obtained," the agency added.

It also emphasised that food safety is a joint responsibility, and that food operators must play their part by adhering to good food hygiene and preparation practices. 

At the same time, the agency also encouraged members of the public who have concerns about food safety practices by food operators to make a report via SFA's online feedback form.
