A male delivery rider was charged by the Health Sciences Authority (HSA)  on Oct 22 with the alleged trafficking of etomidate vaporiser pods (Kpods).

Jeremy Ong Zhiyong, 38, was detained by the police during an enforcement operation in Jurong East on Oct 20.

He was found with three vaporiser pods in an envelope, with a subsequent search of his pouch and motorcycle uncovering another 121.

Laboratory testing conducted by HSA confirmed that the pods contained etomidate.

HSA said that its investigations revealed that Ong was working as a delivery rider and the pods were intended for delivery to customers.

He was remanded for a week to assist with further investigations and his case was mentioned in court again on Thursday (Oct 29).

The case has been adjourned to Dec 10.

HSA reminded would-be perpetrators that it takes a serious view of vaporiser and etomidate trafficking offences.

Under the Tobacco and Vaporisers Control Act, etomidate and its analogues are listed as specified psychoactive substances.

Importers could face up to 20 years' imprisonment and up to 15 strokes of the cane, while traffickers face up to 10 years' jail and up to five strokes of the cane.
