All regions in the Republic recorded a second consecutive day of improved air quality on Friday (Oct 2), with 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) remaining in the moderate range across Singapore.

At 6pm, PSI ranged from 64 to 81 — in the moderate range — with central Singapore recording the highest PSI of 81.

Meanwhile, one-hour PM2.5 concentration is in the normal band, except in central (73) and western (56) Singapore, where readings were in the elevated band.

In its daily haze situation update on Friday evening, the National Environment Agency (NEA) said that the country's 24-hour PSI is forecast to remain in the moderate to low-unhealthy range.

It noted that moderate to dense smoke plumes from southern Sumatra were observed drifting towards Singapore, while smoke haze was also observed from fires in Kalimantan.

Members of the public should note that the health impact of haze is dependent on one’s health status, the PSI level, and the length and intensity of outdoor activity.

Given that dry weather is forecast in Singapore and the surrounding region on Saturday, coupled with the prevailing south-easterly or southerly winds, the agency added that smoke haze could be transported towards Singapore.

Members of the public should note that the health impact of haze is dependent on one’s health status, the PSI level, and the length and intensity of outdoor activity.

Members of the public are advised to check the latest one-hour PM2.5 readings before engaging in outdoor activities.
