PUBLISHED ONSeptember 14, 2026 8:08 AMBYSean LerBusiness owners in Singapore can enjoy greater flexibility in overnight parking arrangements for their heavy vehicles, when a new lodgement service kicks in on Tuesday (Sept 15), the Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced on Monday.
Under the new service, owners of heavy goods vehicles will no longer need to secure a designated parking lot between 12am and 6am, before they can register a new vehicle, transfer ownership, or renew road tax.
This lodgement only applies to heavy goods vehicle or concrete mixer whose maximum laden weight is more than 5,000kg, and any bus with a seating capacity of more than 15 persons, not including the driver.
This service, LTA said, is part of an expansion to its existing Vehicle Parking Certificate (VPC) scheme, which was introduced in 1994.
It was intended to ensure that heavy vehicles are parked responsibly to curb indiscriminate parking.
In its news release on Monday, LTA said it noted that the operational needs of the industry have evolved, adding that the Government has received feedback that greater flexibility in overnight parking arrangements would better support these needs.
The new lodgement service is an alternative way for heavy vehicle owners to meet the overnight parking requirements.
Following its implementation, owners will be allowed to park their heavy vehicles overnight at suitable locations within private and non-residential premises that are not formally designated as licensed heavy vehicle parking spaces.
They will only need to lodge the parking location via the OneMotoring digital service and submit proof of parking consent from the premises owner of the selected parking location.
According to LTA, each lodgement can be made for a period of two years at no fee.
Once a lodgement has been successfully made, owners will receive a letter of acknowledgement from LTA and be regarded as having met the VPC overnight parking requirements for the purposes of registering a new vehicle, transferring ownership or renewing road tax.
An LTA spokesperson said that the lodgement service is part of the authority's broader efforts to ensure that the VPC scheme remains relevant and responsive to industry needs, while curbing the indiscriminate parking of heavy vehicles.
The spokesperson added that the Government will continue to review the VPC scheme and facilitate the provision of additional heavy vehicle parking spaces where needed.
Notwithstanding the convenience, LTA reminded heavy vehicle owners to ensure that their parking arrangements comply with parking rules, and not cause public disamenities or pose safety hazards to others.
There is no change to existing rules mandating that heavy vehicles are not to be parked on public roads or in residential estates.
LTA reminded heavy vehicle owners that those who are found non-compliant with the lodgement requirements will have their lodgement revoked.
