A Singaporean woman suffered chemical burns to 10 per cent of her body after she was allegedly targeted in an acid attack while visiting Hong Kong in June 2025.

The suspect, identified as Anson Kew by the South China Morning Post, was 17 when he allegedly threw the liquid at 36-year-old Jiang Wen.

Now aged 19, he reportedly pleaded guilty before Hong Kong's High Court on Thursday (Oct 15) to a charge of throwing corrosive fluid with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Jiang was about to board a car in Hong Kong's Wan Chai district when the attack took place, reported HK01.

The woman screamed and collapsed after feeling intense pain in her face and legs, according to the report.

Kew fled the scene and turned himself in to the police two days after the attack. He reportedly remained silent when interviewed by police.

According to HK01, police investigations found that the teen had allegedly hidden a plastic bag which contained a bottle of the liquid in a nearby alley.

The liquid reportedly contained sulfuric acid at a 69 per cent concentration.

Jiang received emergency surgery and burn treatments including skin grafts in Hong Kong, according to the South China Morning Post.

She spent two months in hospital before returning to Singapore, where she continued treatment for her injuries.

Kew will be sentenced on Oct 29.
