Student climbs and tumbles off Jurong walkway roof after being told: 'Cannot jump, come back'

A Hua Yi Secondary School student was filmed climbing onto the metal roof of a sheltered walkway before eventually falling off and landing on the grass.

The video was posted on Reddit forum r/SMRTRabak on Aug 25, with a caption poking fun at the behaviour of students today.

In the video, the student can be seen climbing onto the roof while several of his schoolmates watch and film him.

One person behind the camera tells him to jump onto the grass instead, while an older male voice can be heard telling the students in Mandarin not to play around and to stop.

The adult can also be heard pleading with the boy: "Cannot jump, come back."

The student, however, continues and says he wants to do it "at least once in his life".

His friends continued to encourage him to jump, with one reassuring the boy that the distance from the ground was not too far for him as he was tall.

The boy then goes towards the edge to sit, then joking that he was "starting to regret life".

The students also appear to turn their attention to a test, with one asking the teacher if they had passed.

Another student can be heard saying that the roof was "actually not that far" and "not that bad", before asking the teacher whether he was one of the students who scored an A1.

The boy on the roof then says: "Yes, I passed Science."

The situation takes a turn when he lifts himself up with his arms and eventually tumbles off the roof. He lands on the grass, while another person appears to move towards him and attempts to catch or help him.

School says students counselled

In response to queries from Stomp, Hua Yi Secondary School principal said on Aug 31 that the school is aware of the incident and confirmed that the student is safe.

The principal said the school takes the safety and well-being of its students seriously.

The sheltered walkway, which had been temporarily set up due to construction works in the area, has since been removed. The school is located in Jurong West.

The school added that all students involved have been counselled, while their parents have also been engaged following the incident.
