Man gets drunk in Punggol cinema and refuses to leave, kicks and injures police officer

A man snuck a bottle of alcohol into a cinema in Punggol, became intoxicated and refused to leave, behaving aggressively towards staff.

He later kicked a police officer who attended to the situation, causing the officer to suffer a bruised elbow.

Daryl Tang Jun Wen, 31, was sentenced to six weeks' jail on Monday (Aug 31) after pleading guilty to one charge of using criminal force to deter a public servant.

The Singaporean was also fined $1,000 for being a public nuisance in a separate incident. Three other charges were taken into consideration during his sentencing.

Charge sheets seen by AsiaOne state that Tang had overstayed at a cinema at Waterway Point in Punggol between 12.48am and 4.01am on June 29, 2025. 

He repeatedly kicked cinema seats and slammed doors. He also trespassed into the box office area.

Carried to police vehicle on stretcher

Prior to his drunken acts, the man had brought a 750ml bottle of whiskey into the theatre hall and consumed it while watching a movie alone, reported Shin Min Daily News.

When the staff finally called the police, Tang reportedly refused to co-operate. He was eventually carried to the police vehicle on a stretcher while flailing around.

An officer was kicked in the elbow during the arrest.

Tang was found to have 153 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood, according to Shin Min.

Just one year before, Tang had caused trouble at a restaurant along Cuppage Road.

On the morning of June 1, 2024, he called the police emergency hotline and asked them to "come quickly, or a murder will happen", reported the Chinese daily.

When police arrived at the restaurant, they found Tang drinking with a man. He reportedly seemed drunk and verbally abused the man, claiming that a group of people wanted to attack him.

After being detained, he admitted that there was no fight and that he deliberately made a false 999 call.

He was issued a conditional warning in May 2025, but breached it in the cinema incident.
