A motorcycle caught fire after an accident involving a car, a lorry and two motorcycles on Tampines Expressway (TPE) towards the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) on Wednesday (Oct 7).

Facebook page Tiagong SG shared a video of the aftermath on Wednesday, where a large white lorry can be seen stopped in the middle of the expressway, with a fire burning on the road in front of it.

Debris appears to be scattered near the front of the lorry.

Traffic is seen being diverted towards the left side of the road, while three people are visible near the scene.

One of them appears to be wearing a motorcycle helmet.

In response to AsiaOne's queries, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to a fire along the TPE towards the PIE, after the Punggol Road exit, at about 6.50am.

The fire involved a motorcycle, with members of the public extinguishing the fire using fire extinguishers before SCDF arrived.

SCDF sent eight people to Sengkang General Hospital and one person to Changi General Hospital.

Another person was assessed for minor injuries but declined to be taken to hospital.

The police said they were alerted to the accident at the same time.

A 40-year-old male lorry driver and his six passengers, aged between 21 and 61, as well as two male motorcyclists aged 25 and 37, were taken conscious to hospital.

The 40-year-old lorry driver and a 55-year-old male car driver are assisting with investigations.

Police investigations are ongoing.
