Santunan Emas will be expanding its senior citizens programme to Yishun, Sembawang and Woodlands, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced at the 2026 National Day Rally on Sunday (Aug 23).

"[This is] so that more seniors can live their golden years with dignity and purpose," he said.

The programme — a joint effort by Al-Muttaqin Mosque, Ma:een and Muhammadiyah — provides Malay/Muslim seniors with spiritual enrichment.

It also supports their cognitive, physical and social well-being through programmes such as light exercises and movement-based activities, workshops and activities, and gatherings.

In his speech at the Committee of Supply debate on March 6, then-Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Assoc Prof Faishal Ibrahim said that the programme benefits nearly 900 seniors weekly.

It also partners the Agency for Integrated Care, NHG Health and the Singapore Hospice Council in conducting programmes for seniors.

Assoc Prof said at that time that he had asked the People's Association and the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) to help rally resources and agencies across health, social, financial, and religious domains.

The programme's expansion to Yishun, Sembawang and Woodlands, can help more seniors live their golden years with dignity and purpose, said PM Wong.
