79-year-old pedestrian dies after accident near Orchard Road, driver arrested

An elderly pedestrian died in hospital after being involved in a car accident near Orchard Road.

Photos of the incident were uploaded on Sunday (Aug 16) to a Facebook group for private hire vehicle drivers, including one that showed a traffic police signboard appealing for witnesses.

Another photo showed an elderly man laying on the road while a paramedic attends to him.

In response to AsiaOne's queries, the police said that the incident occurred on Aug 11 at 6.45am along Grange Road towards Orchard Link.

The authorities said that the 79-year-old male pedestrian involved was taken unconscious to the Singapore General Hospital, where he subsequently died.

Police added that the 46-year-old male car driver was arrested for driving without due care and attention causing death. 

Police investigations are ongoing.
