PUBLISHED ONAugust 14, 2026 1:00 AMBYSean LerA total of eight men, aged between 25 and 54, have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the illegal sale of marine gas oil off Tuas.
In a news release on Thursday (Aug 13) evening, the police said that officers from the Police Coast Guard boarded a Singapore-registered tugboat to conduct checks at 1.05am, where they discovered the alleged illegal transaction.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the eight crew members had misappropriated about $10,570 worth of marine gas oil without their company's knowledge, and sold illegally.
They will be charged in court on Friday with the offence of theft by servant of property in possession of master.
If found guilty, they could each be jailed for up to seven years and fined.
The police warned would-be perpetrators that they take a serious view of illegal transaction of marine gas oil in Singapore territorial waters, adding that they will continue to conduct enforcement and security checks to prevent, deter and detect such illicit activities in Singapore waters.
