A video of the confrontation between a man and some young cyclists at Lorong Halus bridge has gone viral, making many netizens question why both parties were being difficult.

The argument had occurred due to an alleged collision between both parties.

In the clip posted to Facebook group SG Daily Update on Monday (Sept 28), the man appears to be making a phone call as the youths record a video of him.

He can be heard telling the other party on the phone that there was "a whole lot of them".

"They're still here. They're trying to take video of me," he said, adding that the group of cyclists comprised Malays, Chinese and Indians.

Behind the camera, the group in question can be heard mocking the man for calling the police.

AsiaOne is unable to verify how many youths were involved from the video.

One of the cyclist warned the group that anyone without brakes should leave quickly.

Since 2021, the Land Transport Authority requires all bicycles on public paths and roads to have at least one functioning handbrake.

While filming the exchange, one of the cyclists appears to be sharing some videos of the incident.

"He's the one who started it first," a youth yelled, angering the man.

The man walks over to the cyclists, telling them: "Your friend tried to overtake me and crashed into me”.

“He said excuse me, bro,” one of the cyclists retorted.

The man then challenged the youths, emphasising that their friend had almost knocked into him.

When one of the cyclists pointed out CCTV cameras on the bridge, the man told them it likely captured footage of their friend colliding into his bike as well.

The youths began taunting the man, alleging that he had thrown their friend's bike to the ground instead.

"You think you're so tough," one of them said, while another added: “I feel so heartbroken.”

The man then told them: “You bunch of kids are pathetic”.

The boys laugh as the man retreats to the other side of the bridge and glared at them.

'Just give and take'

Netizens criticised the behaviour of both parties, saying that they were fighting over a trivial matter.

The Facebook post, which did not clarify how the issue was resolved, has amassed almost 80,000 views, over 200 likes and more than 50 comments.

Several comments highlighted how both parties were being stubborn and escalating the issue unnecessarily.

“During my time, we just casually apologised and ask about each other’s well-being and then moved on... Where got all this nonsense?” one Facebook user commented.

Another user said: "Just give and take, la. All come out to enjoy and exercise. Why want to make matters big? Right or wrong, does it matter so much? Society nowadays is so toxic and petty. Instead of spending the extra time arguing, go back and accompany your families. Let the police handle more important stuff.”

AsiaOne has reached out to the police for more information.
