The Singapore Armed Forces' youngest service, the Digital and Intelligence Service (DIS), inaugurated its training command to strengthen training and professional development on Friday (Nov 6).

"Technologies advance, threats evolve, and established ways of working can quickly become obsolete," said DIS chief Major-General (MG) Lee Yi-Jin in his opening address at the inauguration ceremony held at Bukit Panjang Camp.

To this end, the new DIS Training Command's (DTCOM) role is to develop mastery,  while ensuring that what our guardians master remains current and relevant.

The new DTCOM takes a more coordinated and centralised approach to training and development, thereby driving the service's workforce transformation and competency development, the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) said in a statement after the inauguration.

It will also equip personnel with skills and expertise across the domains of cybersecurity, C4 (command, control, communications and computer), digital, electronic protection, information defence and intelligence.

In so doing, the DIS will be able to better contribute to the Singapore Armed Forces' (SAF) overall operational readiness, by being able to support the wider armed forces in conducting integrated and effective operations.

MINDEF said that operationally ready national servicemen (NSmen) will also get structured training and opportunities to deepen their competencies at the new command.

DTCOM will comprise specialised training schools and units catering to the DIS’s six domains of expertise, with additional schools and units to be progressively established in 2027 to strengthen the DIS’ training capabilities, the ministry added.

The schools and units are: intelligence training institute, imagery and geospatial school, intelligence technology and analysis school, joint intelligence school, open-source training wing, cyber defence school and the advanced school for continuous education and development (ASCEND).

ASCEND will partner institutes of higher learning and industry partners to provide DIS personnel with opportunities to continually deepen their competencies through access to the latest external industrial developments.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior commanders and personnel from the DIS and the SAF.
