Residents and businesses in Singapore can look forward to clearer skies and better air quality till Thursday (Oct 29), according to the National Environment Agency (NEA).

In its daily haze situation update on Monday evening, the agency said that showers are expected over Singapore and the surrounding region from Tuesday to Thursday.

The prevailing winds are expected to blow from the northeast or southeast on Tuesday, while winds are forecast to become variable on Wednesday and Thursday.

Under these conditions, NEA said the likelihood of smoke haze affecting Singapore is low on Tuesday, adding that wet conditions should help keep hotspot and smoke haze activity suppressed on the subsequent two days.

The health impact of haze is dependent on one’s health status, the PSI level, and the length and intensity of outdoor activity.

At 6pm, the hourly PM2.5 readings were in the normal band (0 - 55 µg/m3) in all five regions across Singapore.

The 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) was in the good-to-moderate range (0 to 100) island-wide.

PSI forecast on Tuesday is between 60 and 90 — in the moderate range.

Members of the public should still check the latest hourly PM2.5 concentration readings before participating in any outdoor activities.
