Singaporean injured after tour bus overturns near Melaka

A 62-year-old Singaporean was injured after a tour bus veered off the road and overturned on a highway near Jasin in Melaka on Wednesday (Aug 26) morning.

Among those injured were a 59-year-old Malaysian tour guide and a 42-year-old British national, reported Bernama.

Jasin district police chief Lee Robert said police were alerted to the accident involving the tour bus, which was travelling from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, at about 5am on Wednesday.

The bus, which was carrying 12 people, was travelling north along the highway when the accident occurred at the 177.6km mark, according to online news portal The Vibes.

"The driver attempted to avoid a lorry that had slowed down and veered off the left side of the road," said Lee.

He added that the 31-year-old bus driver and eight other passengers on board were not injured, while the three injured victims were taken to hospital for treatment after sustaining injuries to their heads and legs.

Footage of the aftermath of the accident shared on social media showed a bus lying on its side, with some passengers evacuated and sitting on the grass verge at the side of the road.

Based on the footage, the bus is believed to have belonged to Cityline.

Interior footage of the bus also showed some passengers exiting through an open emergency hatch.
