A Singaporean teen studying in Hong Kong was airlifted to a hospital after falling ill while hiking with her friends on Lion Rock.

According to Hong Kong media outlet The Standard, emergency services were alerted in the morning of Oct 10 after the teen became severely unwell near the mountain summit.

The 17-year-old, a student at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, told Sing Tao Headline that it was her first time hiking Lion Rock.

She said she and two female classmates had set out from Tsz Wan Shan around 5am in hopes of catching the sunrise at the peak, but she admitted they weren't fully prepared for the cold temperatures.

After spending about an hour in strong, cold winds near the summit, she reportedly began shivering violently and subsequently started vomiting.

According to the South China Morning Post, the police received a report from the mother of one of the three hikers at about 6.50am.


A rescue helicopter was dispatched, and the teen was taken to Ruttonjee Hospital in Wan Chai for medical attention.
