Hired to care for her son, maid also helped single mum rebuild her life: 'Wherever you and your son go, I go'

PUBLISHED ONOctober 20, 2026 10:30 PMUPDATEDOctober 21, 2026 6:41 AMBYAsyiqin NadzriA domestic helper hired to care for a single mum's son has become much more than a caregiver, standing by her employer through some of the lowest points in her life.
In a TikTok video shared by user N on Sunday (Oct 18), the mother paid tribute to her domestic helper from Philippines, Auntie E, who has been with her family since 2022.
"When I was at my lowest, Auntie E saw everything. The tears, the struggles, the days I could barely hold myself together," she wrote in the video caption.
The mother said Aunty E was initially hired to help care for her son when her maternity leave ended and she returned to work.
However, the helper's role extended beyond looking after the child, whom the mother described as "a little different".
She added that Aunty E had always understood her son and never made him "feel any less loved" for who he was.
The mother also recalled a particularly difficult period when she was exhausted and emotionally drained after an argument with her ex-partner.
She eventually collapsed on the kitchen floor, and Aunty E was there to pick her up.
"There were times I literally wanted to give up on myself," she shared, adding that Aunty E would encourage her to get back on her feet for her son.
The mother later found it increasingly unbearable to continue living under the same roof as her ex-partner.
As she was not from Singapore and had nowhere else to go at such short notice, a friend offered her a small room where the three of them could stay together.
Despite the uncertain circumstances, Aunty E remained by their side.
"Wherever you and your son go, I go," the helper told her.
The mother said the three of them shared one bed, and they continued to navigate the difficult period together.
Reflecting on Aunty E's unwavering support, the mother acknowledged that she was not a wealthy employer, describing herself as "just an ordinary working mum" trying to rebuild her life.
Now that she is gradually getting back on her feet, she hopes to return some of the kindness Aunty E has shown her family.
In the video, she shared that she had bought a laptop for Aunty E's daughter, hoping it would help her pursue her dreams.
The mother added that Aunty E had been through so much alongside her and had never walked away, even when she was at her lowest.
"Some people are family by blood. Some become family by staying through the hardest days," she wrote.
"You're family to me."
The heartwarming story also touched many netizens, with some sharing that the mother's tribute had brought them to tears.
One commenter called Aunty E "an angel sent from heaven", adding: "We all need and have auntie E in our life."
Another netizen, said Aunty E's loyalty reflected the kindness the mother had shown her.
"That's why she loves you and your son as her own family," the netizen wrote, sharing that she was also a domestic helper in Singapore whose employers treated her like family.
Meanwhile, remarked that helpers like Aunty E were becoming increasingly rare.
"Do treasure every moment together. God bless," the netizen added.
