PUBLISHED ONOctober 31, 2026 2:56 AMUPDATEDOctober 31, 2026 5:15 AMBYLim KeweiThe young couple who were killed after a car hit their motorcycle along Tampines Avenue 12 on Thursday (Oct 29) night were expecting their second child.
The man and his wife, both 24, also had a six-year-old son, reported The Straits Times. CNA reported on Oct 31 that there is a gag order on their identities.
The motorcyclist and pillion rider had fallen unconscious after the three-vehicle accident and subsequently died in hospital, the police said.
A 25-year-old woman driving another car also suffered injuries and was conscious when taken to hospital.
A 30-year-old male car driver did not render assistance to the three victims and fled the scene with his 29-year-old female passenger.
Police arrested them on Friday, and the man, named as Muhammad Zulfiqar Abdul Aziz, was charged in court on Saturday.
The couple were buried side by side at the Pusara Aman Cemetery in Choa Chu Kang on Friday.
The female victim's sister told Berita Harian the former was about one month pregnant.
Her uncle told The Straits Times that the family was shocked by the accident.
"We're concerned about her son's welfare and care. For the time being, my sister will look after the boy," he was quoted as saying.
Dashcam footage circulating online shows the couple were riding along the second lane, while the car driven by the 25-year-old woman was next to them in the left-most lane.
Suddenly, a car travelling in the opposite direction crashes through the central divider and rams into the motorcycle and car before flipping on its side.
An eyewitness who wanted to be known as Syazwani told The Straits Times that the motorcyclist and his wife riding pillion were flung into the air.
The police said early Saturday morning that Zulfiqar was driving a deregistered car with a cloned number plate.
He was also driving under disqualification.
He faced a litany of charges in court on Saturday:
For dangerous driving causing death, offenders face up to eight years' jail.
The offence of driving under disqualification carries a fine up to $10,000, or up to three years' jail, or both.
