Traffic lights at the Henderson Road and Telok Blangah Heights road junction were knocked out for nearly nine hours after a car skidded and crashed into a traffic lights signal control box on early Monday (Aug 17) morning.

The incident, involving a silver Toyota saloon car, happened at about 4.10am.

Map showing where the accident happened.

When AsiaOne reached the scene at about 4.50am, the car had mounted up the traffic island and was sitting atop a collapse traffic lights signal control box.

While the car was not obstructing any vehicular traffic, traffic light signals at the said junction were not working as a result of the crash.

The box is part of the Green Link Determining (GLIDE) system which controls all traffic signals by adjusting the green time as traffic flow changes.

It also links adjacent traffic signals to allow vehicles to travel from one junction to another with minimal stops.

Traffic Police officers were seen manually directing traffic at the scene.

A vehicle from traffic engineering company ATS Traffic was also present and workers were seen inspecting the damage.

Checks by AsiaOne indicate that no other traffic intersections in the area were affected and signals at the affected junction was fully restored at around 12.50pm.

In response to AsiaOne's queries, the police stated that the car is believed to have self-skidded, adding that no injuries were reported in the incident.

Police investigations are ongoing.
