Residents in Singapore could get a brief reprieve from the haze amid heavy rains in Singapore on Thursday (Oct 15) morning.

In a heavy rain warning issued at 7.32am, the Meteorological Service Singapore said moderate to heavy thundery showers with gusty winds are expected over the southern, eastern and western areas of Singapore between 7.50am and 8.50am.

This was later extended to 9.30am.

Meanwhile, national water agency, PUB, has issued a risk of flash flood for the following places:

  • Lorong Gambir (till 8.48am)
  • Service road off Upper Paya Lebar Road (till 8.51am)

Air quality in the city state entered the "very unhealthy' range at 9pm on Wednesday (Oct 14), with the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) reaching 203 in western Singapore.

The latest reading marks a new high for 2026, surpassing last week's record of 192 in central Singapore.

At 8am, PSI remained in the very unhealthy range in the western region at 207.

In its daily haze situation update on Wednesday evening, the National Environment Agency said the country's 24-hour PSI forecast is expected to be in unhealthy to very unhealthy range.

It noted that dense smoke haze from fires in Kalimantan was observed to drift towards Singapore under the prevailing southeasterly winds, while smoke haze was also observed over Sumatra.

And although showers are forecast over the Republic on Thursday, dry conditions over southern Sumatra and Kalimantan, coupled with the prevailing winds, mean that dense smoke haze is expected to continue drifting towards Singapore overnight and on Thursday.

Members of the public should check the latest one-hour PM2.5 concentration readings before participating in any outdoor activities.
