Heavy departure traffic at Woodlands on Sept 2 due to tailback from Malaysia: ICA

The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority said in a follow-up post at 12.46pm that heavy departure traffic at Woodlands Checkpoint has subsided. 

Checks by AsiaOne on the Land Transport Authority's traffic cameras at 1.10pm show smooth traffic at the Causeway, Woodlands Crossing and Woodlands Flyover. 

Travellers departing Singapore via Woodlands Checkpoint are advised that there is currently "very heavy departure traffic" due to tailback from Malaysia.

In an advisory posted on its social media at 11.14am on Wednesday (Sept 2), the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said travellers should expect delays.

They are also advised to check traffic conditions before embarking on their journey.

Checks by AsiaOne on the Land Transport Authority's traffic cameras at 11.40am show that the vehicular queue has extended to Woodlands Crossing. 

On the Causeway, the tailback appears to have reached the midpoint-mark. 

Traffic along Woodlands Flyover on the Bukit Timah Expressway, towards Woodlands Checkpoint, remains smooth.

Expect heavy traffic during Sept school holidays

In an earlier advisory posted by ICA on Aug 31, the authority said it expects heavy traffic at Woodlands and Tuas Checkpoints during the upcoming September school holidays.

The September school holidays start on Sept 4 and end on Sept 14.

In its advisory, ICA highlighted that security checks have been stepped up at all checkpoints since Feb 28 — when US and Israel struck Iran — due to the heightened global security environment.

"Travellers should therefore expect longer waiting time during peak travel periods," ICA said.

During the recent National Day long weekend between Aug 7 and 10, more than 2.1 million travelled across Woodlands and Tuas Checkpoints.

Traffic peaked on Aug 7, with more than 593,000 crossings recorded at the land checkpoints in a single day.
