PUBLISHED ONAugust 11, 2026 3:10 AMBYSean LerImmigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers cut open the floorboard of a Malaysia-registered car during an enhanced check at Woodlands Checkpoint on Aug 4.
In photographs posted on its Facebook on Tuesday (Aug 11), the multi-purpose vehicle's (MPV) floorboard was seen cut open from its underneath, revealing cartons of cigarettes.
Several cartons of duty-unpaid cigarettes were similarly found under the MPV's bonnet.
ICA said its officers had directed the vehicle for enhanced checks, acting on information received from its Integrated Targeting Centre.
There, search and examination officers found more than 600 cartons and over 900 packets of duty-unpaid cigarettes concealed in the floorboard of the vehicle.
In this instance, a 26-year-old male Malaysian driver was arrested in relation to the case.
The seized contraband cigarettes and the man have been referred to the Singapore Customs for further investigations.
Buying, selling, conveying, possessing or dealing with duty-unpaid goods are serious offences under the Customs Act and the Goods and Services Tax Act.
Offenders can be fined up to 40 times the amount of duty and GST evaded, jailed for up to six years, or both.
Vehicles used to commit such offences, as well as proceeds from the sale of duty-unpaid goods, may also be forfeited.
