Mary Klass: Singapore's forgotten Olympian sprinter | On the Shoulders of Giants
Her father wanted her to stay at home to cook and clean, but Mary Klass had bigger dreams. Defying both her family and society, she would go on to become one of Singapore's fastest sprinters then. Klass was never paid for her achievements, but relied on sheer determination to run from the Asian Games to the global stage of the Olympics, becoming Singapore's second-ever female Olympian.
