A teenager in Guatemala was presumed dead by her father after she lost consciousness.

Mourners were left stunned when the girl apparently revived and sat up in her coffin during her funeral wake.

Footage shows Yuleidy Ixcotoyac, 15, being supported in an upright position and drinking a cup of water.

She is carried out of the coffin and onto a chair, while attendees appear to massage parts of her body.

The incident occurred last Saturday (Oct 10) in the town of Sacapulas, Quiche, reported North American media outlets.

Quoting an interview by local news channel TV Sac, reports said the teen's father checked her for a pulse and breathing before presuming she had died.

The father, Abraham Ixcotoyac, said he did not take his daughter to the hospital after finding no signs of life. Instead, he purchased a coffin and brought her back home.

Abraham said he was outside his house when the teen regained consciousness at 2.30pm, causing a commotion among funeral attendees.

He reportedly attributed his daughter's apparent revival as a religious miracle.

Meanwhile, Yuleidy said she experienced chest pain before fainting.
