PUBLISHED ONSeptember 11, 2026 1:00 AMBYKoh Xing YingA former Hong Kong secondary school principal has filed a lawsuit seeking damages from his former employer after being dismissed over alleged misconduct during a school delegation's visit to Singapore.
Lee Cheuk Hing, the former principal of San Wui Commercial Society Secondary School, is seeking about HK$960,000 (S$155,000) in compensation, arguing that he was terminated without sufficient notice or compensation in lieu of notice, reported Hong Kong news platform HK01.
During a brief hearing on Tuesday (Sept 8), Judge Shen Qiliang (transliteration) noted that the key issue in Lee's case was whether his alleged misconduct was serious enough to warrant immediate dismissal.
Lee initially sought compensation for sickness allowance, seven days' wages, the difference in provident fund contributions, severance pay and long service payment.
He subsequently confirmed at the hearing that he would no longer pursue his claims for sickness allowance and provident fund contributions.
In May, Lee came under fire after a video reportedly showed him yelling and swearing at security personnel over a parking dispute during a school trip to Singapore.
A school representative said Lee was later asked to explain the incident after the trip and that he had provided an explanation. Apparently, he said he had acted to protect students, according to HK01.
Lee was suspended on May 26 and dismissed on June 3.
It was reported that the school has declined to settle the case, and the trial is scheduled to begin on Dec 1.
