Five-vehicle crash on BKE leaves 3 in hospital, including SBS Transit bus captain

Three people were taken to hospital after a five-vehicle accident involving two cars, a motorcycle, a lorry and a bus along the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) towards the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) on Wednesday (August 19).
A 58-year-old male car driver, a 54-year-old male motorcyclist and a 57-year-old male bus driver were taken conscious to Woodlands Hospital, said the Singapore Police Force (SPF).
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the accident at about 9.05am along the BKE before the Mandai Road exit.
SBS Transit said the bus involved was an off-service bus operating on Service 170.
In a statement, SBS Transit spokesperson Grace Wu said its bus captain was injured and taken to hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
"Two other motorists were also conveyed to hospital. We are trying to get in touch with them to extend our care and assistance," she said.
"We deeply apologise to all affected motorists for the accident and the inconvenience caused. We are assisting the Police with their investigations," Wu added.
The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said the accident led to lane closures along the viaduct leading to the BKE after Woodlands Checkpoint.
In an update at 11.40am, ICA said all lanes on the viaduct were back in operation.
The 57-year-old bus driver is assisting with police investigations.
