The incident happened at about 6.15pm at Block 757 Yishun Street 72.
Residents in the precinct told AsiaOne that smoke was seen coming out from kitchen's and bathroom's windows.
At least one fire engine, a combined platform ladder used for high-rise aerial firefighting, one light fire attack vehicle (LFAV) and an ambulance were present at the scene.
Responding to AsiaOne's queries, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said the fire involved items in a common bathroom of the kitchen.
"SCDF conducted forcible entry into the unit and extinguished the fire using a water jet," it added.
As firefighters were packing up after firefighting operations, a boy was seen interacting with a firefighter next to the LFAV.
He was accompanied by his parents, spending some moments to look at the firefighting appliances.
As they were leaving, encouraged by who appears to be his father, the boy snapped into a salute before waving goodbye, with the firefighter waving back.
A simple heartwarming gesture, but a timely reminder of who we can be for others.
No injuries were reported in the fire incident, investigations are ongoing.
