Over $639k in outstanding fines recovered from foreign motorists at land checkpoints

PUBLISHED ONOctober 08, 2026 4:30 AMBYSean LerMore than $639,000 in unpaid fines were recovered from 265 foreign motorists during a multi-agency operation led by the Traffic Police from 28 to 30 September 2026.
Police said in a joint news release on Thursday (Oct 8) that the operation was supported by officers from the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA), Housing and Development Board, Land Transport Authority (LTA), National Environment Agency, and the Urban Redevelopment Authority.
During the operation, a total of 265 foreign motorists with outstanding fines were stopped and directed to settle their fines for vehicular and traffic offences when they entered Singapore through Woodlands and Tuas Checkpoints.
In their statement, the agencies highlighted that Singapore takes a serious view of foreign motorists who have committed offences in Singapore, and do not settle their fines.
"Singapore authorities regularly conduct operations against such motorists, and those with outstanding fines for traffic, parking, or vehicular emissions offences may be denied entry into Singapore."
They also reminded motorists to abide by Singapore laws such as adhering to stipulated speed limits, obeying traffic signals, paying ERP and parking charges, and not parking illegally.

From Nov 2, foreign-registered vehicles with outstanding fines for traffic, parking or vehicular emissions offences committed in Singapore will not be able to apply for or renew their Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) with LTA.
Under the prevailing practice, foreign-registered vehicles with outstanding fines may be denied entry only when they arrive at land checkpoints.
As all foreign-registered vehicles are required to have a valid VEP to enter Singapore, those without the permit will be turned back to Malaysia.
Since Oct 6, all foreign-registered cars entering the Republic via Woodlands or Tuas Checkpoint must have a valid vehicle entry permit (VEP), or they will not be able to submit their Singapore Arrival Card (SGAC).
Owners of foreign-registered vehicles to settle their outstanding fines before applying for or renewing a VEP and entering Singapore.
Those who wish to check for any outstanding fines can do so on AXS.
They are advised to factor in the VEP application timeline of two weeks and the two calendar days needed by payment service providers to update the records in the agencies' systems.
