Singaporean among 4 arrested after brawl near JB checkpoint

Singaporean restaurant owner Gary Lim, 46, was among four men arrested after an alleged brawl near the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI), Johor Bahru checkpoint, Malay Mail reported on Thursday (August 20).

He later claimed trial to three charges linked to the incident.

The four men, aged between 25 and 46, were arrested between 12.15am and 1.45am on Sunday, Sinar Harian reported.

A witness told Lianhe Zaobao that he saw a man in black allegedly pushing and shoving with two Malaysian police officers on the road.

Video footage showed the man allegedly repeatedly pushing an officer and shouting and gesturing at him.

Johor Bahru Selatan district police chief ACP Azrul Hisham Mohd Shaffei said the fight allegedly stemmed from a road dispute involving three Malaysian men and a Singaporean man, Sinar Harian reported.

Lim was charged with allegedly causing hurt to a Malaysian woman with a knife, obstructing a policeman from carrying out his duties and possessing an 8.5cm-long knife. 

He pleaded not guilty to all three charges.

Lim was granted RM20,000 ($6,700) bail, with his case to be mentioned again on Sept 25.

Another man, G Thinesh Kumar, 28, also claimed trial to allegedly assaulting Lim with a helmet and was granted RM5,000 bail, with his case fixed for mention on Sept 15.
