Beyond immigration operations, the two countries also share a close bilateral relationship, marked by cooperation across many fields.
Being "forever neighbours and forever working friends", as Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong described during a four-day visit to Pahang and Terengganu in May, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) on Monday (Aug 31) presented its counterparts from the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) with cakes.
The simple but meaningful presentations took place at the Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex — across the Causeway, and the Sultan Abu Bakar CIQ — across Tuas Checkpoint.
"ICA values the close partnership we share with our Malaysian counterparts in safeguarding our borders, while facilitating the smooth movement of people and goods through our land checkpoints," it wrote in a post on its social media.
It also wished Malaysia a "Happy 69th birthday".
The move reciprocates AKPS' gesture on Aug 9, when Singapore celebrated its 61st birthday.
