Ducati rider in coma after being trampled by cows in Malaysia

ERMAISURI - A Ducati Diavel motorbike rider is in a coma after some 30 cows charged at him while he was riding in a convoy in Malaysia.

Mr Anuar Abd Rahim, 49, was trampled by the cows and sustained severe injuries, the New Straits Times reported.

The incident happened around 2pm on Friday near a Petronas petrol station in Merang.

He was part of a convoy of 20 bikers who were en route to have lunch and were making their way from Batu Rakit, Kuala Terengganu to Penarik, Setiu, reported the newspaper.

His wife, Ms Dewi Rosita Abdul Rahim, who was in the same convoy and was riding her Ducati Monster about 10m ahead of her husband, said she managed to control her machine as some of the cows came charging towards her.

"My husband and I were the last two riders in the convoy and the rest of the riders had safely moved away from the area.

"We were riding our bikes at moderate speed. Suddenly, a herd of about 30 cows which were initially on our left-hand side began charging towards us.

"One of the cows (hit) my left leg, but I could still control my bike to prevent it from falling," said Ms Dewi, 48, when contacted.

They were taken to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu.

"My husband remains in the intensive care unit and is still unconscious," said Ms Dewi.

"The doctors have not informed me when my husband could go home, but I was told that it will depend on his condition."
